Our Beginings.
An early bespoke work devised and inspired from the Tale of Deirdre of the Sorrows and her history in Scotland as told in the Glen Massen Manuscripts gives a Scottish retort to an Irish story and paints a vivid picture of a strong vibrant 4th Century woman who came to Argyll to find peace with her lover. For seven years she walked and lived in the Hills of the Highlands, leading her people as did her immediate forebears the Kings of Dalraida. This powerful tale inspired collaborative team Sadie Dixon-Spain & Liam Calgie to create a vibrant theatre walk as part of a community project. Their aim was to develop rural Cowals access to professional theatre, to encourage use of the great outdoors, the enjoyment of the open air and to find an unusual way to promote healthy living and outdoor acesss set within the parameters of a guided walk inspired by Argylls amazing landscape and environment. For this reason ‘The Walking Theatre Company’ was born, a truly rural business working to support sustainable communities as a social enterprise in Argyll.
