Neilston Primary School TeamTown Day

A TWTC team has returned from Neilston Primary’s Team Town day. Working with Laura from The Neilston Development Trust and Elizabeth from The Lighthouse, we had a brilliant day. Despite drizzle and high winds, The actors and audience splodged and sang our way to the mill and back to school.  As ever creating an engaging way to connect with landscapes TWTC joined with the kids and we all really got a buzz out of becoming nineteenth century millworkers. The afternoon workshops recorded masses of material and gave the primary 5’s, the children of 2021 a real voice to impute into the new designing of Neilstons future and landscape.

Those Naughty Campbells

Our walk for Historic Scotland is currently in pre-production. Waist deep in Campbell history and travelling through time to meet the great houses of the family as well as the great names, the Dukes of Argyll, the Duchesses, tricky relatives like Rob Roy McGregor, not to mention the Kings and Queens who’s royal courts were the playing fields of power. All this creates such a wealth of material. Next job to reduce a 4 hour play into 20 fun fact busting minutes.

Argyll Hotel - Spying Tonight

The team is just back from a splendid weekend of murder and mayhem. Lady Lucinda Legover was in full flow whilst her arch rival Glad Twice Nightly was as ever buoyant.  One gleeful guest said the evening had restored his ‘faith in humanity’.  He came with his wife, not knowing any one and the pair had a great fun interactive weekend making new friends and laughing allot.  We aim to please.  Goodnight all.

Communicate That

Yesterday saw Sadie training in Glasgow with friend and colleague Hilary Robertson of Communicate That. This dynamic pair have combined their considerable skills to create a unique interactive presentation masterclass.  Our team of enthusiastic and experienced presenters were set through their paces ironing out the wrinkles.  Voice work, body awareness, positive language, confidence, ordering content concisely and avoiding ‘death by PowerPoint’ were the order of the day, no mean feet and they did it all.  A great day was had by all and it is always amazing how much ground can be covered in one short day.

New products are in development including our ‘Corporate Shorts’ 2 hour taster and top up skills session for businesses to provide in house training solutions on a credit crunch budget.  For more information contact Hilary.  http://www.communicatethat.com

Neilston ‘team town’ Renaissance Schools day

TWTC this week visited St Thomas’ primary school in Neilston as part of our HLF funded project ‘Living History and Beyond’. We took the children out on a journey through time and around their town, out to the fields above the old mill building.  The walk was great fun and the weather was glorious.

After the walk we hosted workshops comparing Neilstons past with Neilstons present and recording the voices of the children as they expressed their thoughts on Neilstons future.  This work will now be fed back through the Neilston development trust to the architects and co-ordinators of the Renaissance town project. Our work here is creating a fun focussed forum to record the youth voice and give future generations a say in the current development of the town.

Polmaddy - Homecoming

A first draft of the Polmaddy script is now complete.  This commission from The Forestry Commission Scotland will celebrate this heritage site in Galloway. The remains of a ‘fermtoun’ will be brought to life as part of the Forestry’s homecoming celebrations. A lowland clearance village will show how generations of Scots just disappeared.

Historic Scotland Homecoming

TWTC has been commissioned by Historic Scotland to create a 2 handed short theatre walk telling the tale of the Campbell Clan. The story will encompass three significant sites associated to the family.  One performance will be at Castle Campbell, once called Castle Gloom which sits at the head of Dollar Glen and was the chief lowland stronghold of the Campbell clan, upon whose members the successive titles of Earl, Marquis and Duke of Argyll were bestowed. One performance will be in the grounds of the majestic Inveraray which is today the home of the Duke of Argyll and his family and nestles on the picturesque shores of Loch Fyne. Last but no means least will be the performance at the multi award winning Glen Coe Visitor Centre.  For dates see our availability page. Times and booking details TBC.

Dunollie Homecoming

Plans were afoot at Dunollie today as a squelching spring walk around the site opened up the vision of the grounds for the Dunollie Homecoming event ‘The Hidden Jewel’  Sadie Dixon-Spain and Liam Calgie met with Catherine Gillies (Dunollie’s project manager) and her lovely assistant ‘Richard’ today at Dunollie house to site the walk for the event. A glorious spring day with snow drops bursting from the banks and magnificent views out across the Firth of Lorne from the old ruined Dunollie castle.  From this breathtaking site we could easily imagine the North Atlantic convoy ships mustering or feel the echoes of King Harkon of Norway’s troops gathering ready for the battle of Largs.  A place seeped in moving history and vision of Scotlands past and present. No finer setting to bring to life the voices of the MacDougal family history and to boot in the kitchen garden pond, the most extraordinary collection of frogspawn that any of us had ever seen. An inspiring and thoughtful morning for us all.

Neilston

TWTC is delighted to be part of Neilstons ‘Team Town’ initiative. Working with the Neilston Development trust our role is to fascilitate the youth voice. Our Heritage Lottery funded project ‘The Millhouse Village Walk’ provides a dramatic interactive experince for Neilstons School children to take part in. The  journey will take them into their villages past where they will become childworkers in the Neislton mill.  As they move through the remants of a designed industrial landscape that was once to pivital in the growth of the comunity, they will then walk on into modern day and their own futures.  The purpose of the schools workshops is to connet the children to the wider programe which is to launch the ‘Town Charter’, this will map Neilstons future as a sustainable village under Scotlands ‘Renaissance Town’ process.
