Heritage Lottery Projects

By Sadie Dixon-Spain, December 4, 2008

We are delighted to be supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in our two year project ‘Living History and Beyond.

Building upon the work that we created in the rural communities of Cowal and Argyll, we are now working on a program of projects that will to be launched in 2007-2009.  Each project is being developed for a specific community group and will be launched in that community. Once launched the performances are entirely transferable. Each project creates a guided walking play that will work in any landscape. Each play is sourced from historical research and tales from within the community that we are working with.  Each play creates a focussed profile event that can be used by community groups to draw people together both local and visitor and raise the profile of the area. Each play raises collective awareness of local history, the issues and the heritage that makes a community the place it is in the 21st Century. In essence we will create ‘living interactive historical theatre’.

Our five plays are;

The Whisky Way - a tale of illicit stills, smuggling, and Act of Union and a Nation divided

The Celtic Tree Walk - a family tale celebrating Scotlands magnificent ancient woodlands

Dead Men Cant Speak - A Clan tale of rivalry, monarchy and bloody murder

Coming Home - A journey through the highland clearances, families gone and families coming home

A Village walk - the story of industrialisation, mills and a changing landscape
